About
Mike Irizarry, Jr.
I am a graphic designer based in New Jersey, working freelance since 2015.

I always loved to draw when I was younger, which even led me to create my own comic book characters when I was in third grade. My fascination with creating and admiring art continued on through my life. Once I had taken some digital art classes in high school, I decided that I wanted to go to college to major in graphic design. At college, I learned the fundamentals of design and how to create an effective logo, layout, and other works for a client.

I landed my first full-time job in 2012 as the in-house graphic designer for a company that sold promotional products. My job there involved creating/recreating artwork in vector format in Adobe Illustrator. Clients would give us direction and I would create proofs based on their specifications. The final files would be sent to the vendors for production.

In 2014, I moved on to become a production artist at a screen printing shop, focusing strictly on color separation. I would take the artwork supplied by our clients and create screen files so that the jobs can be printed. A few years later, I was promoted to become the virtual proof artist. I would take the artwork from the client and create a production proof. These proofs include imprint size, placement, and print colors. Once the client approves the proof, the artwork is sent to production to be printed.

The experience at these jobs has given me the experience that I have applied to this freelance business.

When I'm not at my full-time gig, I use my free time to work on all my projects. A handful of those can be found on this portfolio site.
